Lindajo Haythorn
BSED, MAAT, ATR:
Contemporary Artist, Painter, Muralist, Art Educator, Art Therapist
Lindajo has been an art educator since 1982, specializing in art and dance therapy. Her classes focus on multicultural expression through both visual and performing arts, providing students with creative avenues for personal growth and healing. In 2013, she became a nationally registered art therapist, helping individuals use the arts to process emotions, develop self-awareness, and address unresolved emotional conflicts. She works closely with oncology patients and staff, hospice programs, and students facing emotional and psychological challenges.
In addition to teaching, Lindajo designs original pieces for Ancient Hands, enhancing her husband’s pottery with fiber, shells, beads, feathers, and other natural materials. She paints Calusa interpretive mask reproductions inspired by the early-twentieth-century watercolors of Wells M. Sawyer, created during Frank Cushing’s archaeological excavations. Her work recreates the natural coloring of the original artifacts, giving them the appearance of aged wood. She also offers original watercolor paintings that blend images of artifact reproductions with their interpreted meanings.
Through Ancient Hands, Lindajo finds a unique opportunity to help revive and share an ancient artistic tradition with the world. She believes that every day presents an opportunity to create—whether with pencil, paint, dance, music, or even a spatula and frying pan. To her, the most important thing is simply to create.
