Native American Reproductions
Created by Marty Haythorn
What Was the Concept Behind Ancient Hands?
Since the mid-1970s, I have dedicated my craft to preserving the history of Southeastern Native American artifacts. My journey began as an apprentice to ethnographic artist Ivan Gundrum, where I learned to create museum-quality reproductions using traditional techniques. Inspired by that experience, I founded Ancient Hands to continue Mr. Gundrum’s legacy, expanding the collection to nearly 300 pieces and experimenting with indigenous clays, pit firing, and burnishing.

Many of the original artifacts I study are one of a kind and remain in storage, out of public view. Through my work with museums and archaeologists, I’m able to reconstruct these remarkable pieces and make high-quality reproductions available to museum stores and the public. My goal is to ensure that the beauty and cultural significance of these artifacts are never lost to time. For a catalog and price list, please contact me.
